Dennis Palmer - Artist Statement
I have always loved the world of art. Both the artist and the art connoisseur enjoy this amazing world of creative expression. While the artist communicates through a variety of means, the connoisseur observes these attempts, and is the ultimate judge of whether the effort is a success or a failure.
I have always thought that if a work of art captivates the viewer, if only for a moment, the artist has done his/her job. Although the viewer may not appreciate it, every work of art has a purpose, and makes a statement.
It is often futile to ask an artist what is the significance of a particular piece of art. The artist often replies that it is the viewer who must decide the meaning.
When I was young, I was drawn to the fascinating realm of surrealism. For me it represented a freedom from reality that could be expressed in a two-dimensional format. I have studied the works of the abstractionists, realists and impressionists, and have experimented in some of these formats. But, I am drawn time and time again to what have become my signature flights of fantasy.
I want the observers of my works to be taken to a place they've never been before... and, hopefully, enjoy the view.
