Dreams - Romantic Disorientation (Nov 2 - Oct 21, 2016)
(La Jolla, CA) La Playa Gallery will open a new exhibition called “Dreams – Romantic Disorientation” featuring artists Tiffany Bociek, David B. Cuzick and Bk Kirwan on view from Friday, September 2, 2016 until Friday, October 21, 2016. The show will include works inspired by the complex images of dreams and our ability to decipher them.
Dreams of high interest establish a base of differentiation against optimist and romantic dream orientations. Complexity, color and disorientation are a part of dream contextualization. In this show, the artists provide the opportunity to display imagery crossing the line of our waking reality with our sleeping reality. Bouts of chaos mixed with identified objects draw the viewer into the romantic world of dreams.

Cognition - Images of the Mind (May 11 - June 24, 2016)
La Playa Gallery will open a new exhibition featuring artists Cary Griffiths, Suzanne Budd and Albert Powell on view from Wednesday, May 11 until Friday, June 24. The show, “Cognition, Images of the Mind,” will feature works inspired by the free-flowing nature of line and color to calm and excite the observer.
Abstract paintings speak a language of color and forms to express thoughts and emotions. By focusing on formal quality over representation, the minimalist aesthetic can impact the human capacity to sense both balance and conflict using lines and shapes. Swirls of pigment, which drift from reality into non-objective emotional responses, are capable of triggering memories and enhanced insightfulness which metabolize unique human intelligence formations. Such is the power of shape, line and color.
Come meet the artists whose purposeful visions are created on canvas. La Playa Gallery’s Opening Reception will be Friday, May 6 from 5-8:00PM. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 10-5:00PM. For additional information, please call (858) 454-6903.
Whimsy (February 26 - April 30, 2016)
Creativity, imagination, and play are celebrated at La Playa Gallery this February as we open our newest exhibition.
Each work reveals different stylistic approaches that echo of an idyllic paradise reminiscent of childhood. They embody themes of playfulness with amusing characters in a world full of adventure and fun.
Featuring paintings from Yuri Kuznetsov, Kay Kaplan, Cathy Carey, and Matt Spangler this show explores the various colors, patterns, and designs that appeal to everyone’s inner child. Together, these fantastical imagery come together to embody a simplified time void of responsibility, work, and unexpected realities of tomorrow.
